Center opens application process for one-act playwrights to submit for The Studio Project

The Carrollwood Cultural Center is now accepting applications from local playwrights to stage and showcase their work for a live audience as part of The Studio Project for the Center’s 2023-24 upcoming theatrical season.

The Studio Project is a theatrical incubator with an alternative focus each year. The program aims to foster the development of new theatrical and performative works in the Tampa Bay area.

For the 2023-24 season, the Center is focusing on one-act playwrights. The Center is seeking two previously unpublished/unproduced works that run for 30 minutes or fewer. As part of the project, the Center will offer rehearsal and performance space in The Studio, located at 13345 Casey Road, behind the Center’s main building. The winning artist(s) will receive a small stipend and minimal production needs. In addition, the Center will make available a professional director to help stage the piece if so desired. The winning artist(s) work will be showcased for a live audience on January 19 at 8 p.m., January 20 at 8 p.m., and January 21 at 2 p.m. at The Studio.

To apply, please provide a brief synopsis, an excerpt of the piece, casting, and technical requirements, and state why the piece suits The Studio Project. Please email all components to [email protected]. Please include good personal contact information.

The deadline to apply is Monday, November 27, 2023.
