Our teen summer theatre program will consist of two 4-week sessions. Each 4-week session is an intensive training program in which students will audition, rehearse, design, tech, and perform a theatrical production of a well-known play under the instruction of working professionals.
Students of the program need to understand that dedication, focus, and participation make the program successful for all. We are thrilled to launch this new program for teens interested in strengthening their passion for theatre and look forward to creating something incredible!
2025 Projects
“War of the Worlds”
June 2-27
The War of the Worlds radio broadcast, directed by Orson Welles on October 30, 1938, was a dramatization of H.G. Wells’ novel. It was presented as a series of fake news bulletins simulating a Martian invasion of Earth targeting New Jersey. The realistic sound effects and presentation style led some listeners to believe it was an actual event and caused widespread panic despite announcements that it was a fictional play. The event remains one of the most famous examples of mass hysteria triggered by a radio broadcast.
This 4-week session will introduce teens to the art of classic radio drama. Students will study the history of 1930’s radio shows. They will develop sharper listening and speaking skills through the art of voice acting, work as an ensemble, practice projection, learn how to create Foley sound effects that build a compelling narrative, hone communication skills, and enhance their critical thinking while exploring storytelling without relying on visual cues. Students will have a blast terrifying the masses again with their performance of the infamous War of the Worlds broadcast!

“Return to the Forbidden Planet” Intensive
July 7-August 1
Shakespeare’s forgotten rock and roll masterpiece! Inspired by The Tempest, this high-energy jukebox musical is packed with rock ‘n’ roll classics, including “Great Balls of Fire,” “Good Vibrations,” “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “Young Girl” and “Gloria.”
Blast off on a routine flight and crash into the planet D’Illyria, where a sci-fi version of The Tempest –
set to rock ‘n’ roll golden oldies – unfolds with glee! The planet is inhabited by a sinister scientist, Dr.Prospero; his delightful daughter Miranda; Ariel, a faithful robot on roller skates; and an uncontrollable monster, the product of Prospero’s id, whose tentacles penetrate the spacecraft.
During this 4-week intensive, students will stretch their musical theatre muscles and gain performance skills as they dance, sing, and act their way to a one-act performance of chosen favorites from the jukebox musical Return to the Forbidden Planet!
