Advanced Drawing for Adults – Realism & Color

  • Class Description

This six-week studio course is designed for adults seeking focused technical growth in realism. Each
class begins with a 20–25 minute guided lesson drawing from master artists, followed by structured
studio practice. Emphasis is placed on proportion, value control, edge handling, anatomical accuracy, and
disciplined color layering within a serious atelier-style environment.

Week 1 – Portrait Structure & Likeness: Artist: John Singer Sargent
Head construction, facial planes, accurate proportions, and structured block-ins.

Week 2 – Hands, Feet & Anatomy: Artist: Michelangelo
Gesture vs. construction, simplified forms, and major muscle landmarks.

Week 3 – Nature & Atmospheric Depth: Artist: Albert Bierstadt
Value grouping, spatial depth, and atmospheric perspective (monochrome focus).

Week 4 – Animals & Texture: Artist: Albrecht Dürer
Structural anatomy, fur direction, and controlled texture rendering.

Week 5 – Color Theory & Realism: Artist: Diego Velázquez
Limited palettes, warm vs. cool light shifts, grayscale underdrawing with layered color, and edge control.

Week 6 – Final Studio Project: Artist: Yoshitaka Amano
Composition refinement and finishing techniques. Students complete a resolved work (portrait, animal, nature, or conceptual) demonstrating strong structure, clear lighting, and intentional color harmony.
