Mike KingWhat is a paradox? It is a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that, despite the gainsayers, has been shown to be a fact.
The bad treatment that Vincent Van Gogh suffered at the time, and now his paintings sell for hundreds of millions, underscores the meaning of “paradox.” My art show develops this theme of paradox by juxtaposing my realistic art with abstract images. I usually paint my realistic work in watercolor and abstracts in acrylic.
Abstract painting, unlike narrative or realistic work, does not tell a story. It just “IS.” One should look at the big picture first before dismissing the work. The art may be so surreal, strange, and mysterious that it is unknowable, but that’s OK. That’s why it’s called ART.
