- Essential watercolor styles: washes, wet-on-wet, and dry brushing
- Color Theory: mixing colors and creating harmonious palettes
- Brush Control: using different brushes to achieve various effects
- Composition: the principles of composition to develop balanced and dynamic artwork

- Chromatek Watercolor paint set – 62 piece kit or Grabi 50 vibrant colors
- Watercolor paper such as Art-N-Fly watercolor paper pad 9×12″
- 2 pack cold press watercolor sketchbook – Canson or Strathmore Watercolor paper are also appropriate (preferably 140 lb cold pressed or higher)
- a selection of brushes (round and flat)
- Watercolor palette for mixing colors
- Paper towels (no rags)
- Water container
