MOVIE NIGHT: Frozen

Movie Night Graphic - Frozen

Do you want to build a snowman? Winter has come and what better way to celebrate than with Frozen on the big screen!

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen,” Frozen is the 2013 American computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film depicts a princess who sets off on a journey alongside an iceman, his reindeer, and a snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped their kingdom in eternal winter.

Before the movie, meet and take pictures with some special friends. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary to have a great time.

The Art of SURVIVAL

The-Art-of-SURVIVAL-500x500.

An engaging talk about the art of [SURVIVAL] with [MIRIAM ZIMMS]

What happens when the opportunity arises for us to personally experience the healing power of the arts through a health crisis? What if we allow the healing arts to enter our lives in all facets of mind (will), body (energy), and spirit (inner light/faith) support because we have no other choice? What if we find that art becomes just as important as medical treatment in survival? This lecture and demonstration will take attendees on Miriam’s survival journey answering those questions. She will use the arts – visual, movement, and sound to show how over 11 years she used the arts as a powerful tool for self-introspection and -expression over loss and trauma to move forward and heal. The lecture will be presented in an expressive story style and culminate in a class demonstration.

About the [ARTIST]: Miriam Zimms

I came to healing arts eleven years ago through the Arts in Medicine studio at Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC). Guided by the Artist in Residence there, I learned about the healing and expressive arts by using them as a patient.  I established a daily arts practice during and after multiple surgeries, treatment, and a long-term rehabilitation for a major health crisis  that left me with a disability. My award-winning abstract art has been featured across Tampa Bay and throughout Florida in medical institutions, private companies, and public galleries. I am a Certified Zentangle and an Expressive Arts Teacher. I have taught and teach classes online and in-person within the community for over seven years. I advocate in the community and present nationally and internationally on the “power of art to heal” as a way of self-expression to overcome loss and trauma, and as part of a long-term mind, body, spirit self-care practice.

The Art of TATTOOING

The-Art-of..TATTOOING--500x500

An engaging talk about the art of [TATTOOING] with [SHANNA G.]

The art of Tattooing - artwork3 by Shana G.Tattooing as an intimate, sacred, and transformative human experience has been in existence for much longer than people generally believe. While the possibilities of finding earlier examples of ancient tattoos is exciting, there’s an overlooked visual history of body art extending from 3250 BCE to modern day that is eager to be explored through a critical and analytical lens. This lecture will explore the expansive history of tattooing, various styles from eastern and western cultures as well as the human experience in its relation to the practice of providing and receiving body art.

About the [ARTIST]: Shanna G.

My name is Shanna G. and I am a tattooist, art historian and owner of Apothic Tattoo Studio in Wesley Chapel, FL. After receiving my masters in Art History, I taught at a few local universities for a few years before deciding to re-enter the tattoo profession. I enjoy the research possibilities entwined with tattooing and hope to aid in mending the disconnect between the fine art and tattoo worlds in the future.
