Painting with Acrylics

This painting course will explore color, composition and use of acrylic paint. This course is for beginner painters and those with previous painting experience. Working on paper as well as canvas, students will gain proficiency in the use of water based acrylic paint. Emphasis will be placed on color theory and direct observation. still ife set ups will be a jumping off point to creating an original work of art. Demos by the instructor and references to established artists will help students develop their painting style. Students will not be painting from photos.

    • Paper palette
    • variety of long handled brushes
    • palette knife
    • water container
    • pencils
    • eraser
    • Acrylic Paint: White, Mars balck, Alizeran Crimson, Cadmium Red, Pthalo blue, Cobalt blue, Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Yellow
    • Gel medium
    • Heavy weight drawing paper (18×24 or larger)
    • Three canvases prestretched and geossed (sizes for canvas are according to students’ preference)
    • (Supplies can be purchased at Blick Art Supply or Michaels)
  • Materials Fee:

    $8 for paint, papers, and newsprint (due to the instructor on the first day of class)

    $85 member / $100 non-member
