SUMMARY:"Behind My Mask" by Keila Small
DESCRIPTION:My work is a constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas that I have about myself as a woman. Through my new series\,” Through my\nEyes”\, I do not limit myself to one style or concept simply because interpretation and ideas change. I believe in creativity\, imagination and self-expression. I portray my subjects in surroundings that are relevant to my life and/or in a manner that best captives my emotions at the time. I think of my work as a celebration and affirmation of my life. Each portrait is an adventure and curiosity of the human figure. I want to infuse my portraits with a sense of realism\, so each painting appears relaxed and familiar. Art is more about communicating what I am feeling than what I am seeing. My goal is to capture women’s beauty by allowing them to be themselves. HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SHOW! \nBIO\nI currently live and work in sunny Florida. I was raised in Port-Au-Prince\, Haiti. When I was younger\, I was encouraged to pursue education and career interests that would lead to fulfilling my family’s goals for me. I always did artwork\, often hiding my devotion to the craft I loved.\nAfter graduating high school in Haiti\, I went on to North Carolina A&T State University obtaining a BS in Applied Mathematics. While I studied hard and succeeded in these endeavors’ art was always in my heart and on my mind. Today\, if I am asked what I do or even who I am\, I am proud to answer…I am an artist.

SUMMARY:"One Race One Face" by Sal Patalano
DESCRIPTION:In the heart of Florida’s bustling streets\, amidst the cacophony of daily life and overlooked corners of society\, my lens finds its true calling. I am Sal Patalano\, a street portrait photographer whose work delves deep into the visceral tapestry of human existence. My art is not just about capturing images; it is about narrating the untold stories of resilience\, despair\, and the unyielding dignity of those often relegated to the shadows of our gaze. \nDriven by an insatiable desire to confront the raw reality of life\, my photography ventures beyond the superficial veneer of society. Each\nframe is a poignant exploration of the human condition\, a candid portrayal of the harsh realities faced by those who find themselves battling substance abuse\, mental illness\, or the relentless sting of homelessness. My subjects are not just subjects; they are individuals whose stories of struggle and survival are frequently ignored or silenced by a society that deems them unwanted. \nThrough my lens\, the streets transform into an open stage without doors to close or curtains to draw. This unfiltered exposure lays bare the stark truth of existence for many\, in a world where privacy is a privilege they cannot afford. My work seeks to dismantle the barriers of indifference\, inviting viewers to confront the discomfort of acknowledging these harsh truths. \nThe essence of my photography lies not in exploiting pain\, but in amplifying the silent cries for recognition and respect that emanate from the fringes of our communities. It is a call to acknowledge the inherent dignity of every individual\, regardless of their circumstances. By casting light on the darkened alleys of society\, my aim is to foster a deeper understanding and empathy towards those who are often dismissed as ‘unwanted’ by the mainstream. \nIn this journey\, my camera is both a witness and a storyteller\, chronicling the unseen and unspoken with a hope to raise awareness and inspire action. Through the stark\, unapologetic portrayal of reality\, my work aspires to challenge perceptions\, provoke thought\, and ultimately\, catalyze change. \nAs an artist\, I am committed to using my craft to unveil the beauty and tragedy of life on the streets\, inviting viewers to look beyond their own worlds and consider the broader human experience. It is in this space of visibility and recognition that I believe true understanding and  compassion can flourish. \nMy photography is more than an artistic endeavor; it is a relentless pursuit of truth\, a homage to the strength of the human spirit\, and a plea for a more inclusive and compassionate society. \n– Sal Patalano

SUMMARY:"Florida Light" by Jennifer Lancaster
DESCRIPTION:Florida’s natural environment has been a theme in Lancaster’s artwork for years. Since attending Sarasota’s Ringling School of Art in the early 1970s\, oil painting has been her medium of choice. Her process starts by building the entire composition with one color\, usually Di oxazine purple\, and then building up local colors in layers. Her favorite subjects are palm trees\, which she finds beautifully linear. She enjoys playing with the abstract shadows\, color\, and light that change with the weather and the time of day. \nJennifer’s work received first place in the Center’s Pointillism & Beyond art exhibit in 2024. \n\nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m. – 6 p.m.\nMost Saturdays\n9 a.m. – noon \nSummer Gallery Hours (June 3-August 2):\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.\nMost Saturdays\n9 a.m. – noon \nOur gallery is unique because it is integrated in everything we do! SUMMARY:"Alive with Still Life" by Fran Failla
DESCRIPTION:I have been painting and creating art for over 50 years. It is and has always been an integral part of my life and a definitive statement of who I am as an individual. I paint because I love it. I love the smell of the oils and the rich\, creamy way oil paints glide on a smooth canvas. I love to see an image emerge from those paints and form a visual reality for the viewer. My art is about communicating the simplicity and beauty of Life. It is something that often cannot be approximated with words alone\, as there is a visual aesthetic that\, by its very nature\, accompanies the communication. And the aesthetic then elevates the communication beyond the words. \nI am fascinated by the seemingly mundane parts of Life. A piece of fruit\, an old piece of ceramic or glass\, a flower that’s beyond its freshness\, are all\, to me\, inherently beautiful. It is my mission as an artist to bring that beauty to others in a meaningful and abundantly aesthetic way. \n-Fran Failla www.franfailla.com \nArt Reception: Friday\, April 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.   MORE INFO \n\nAbout the Artist\nFran Failla \nBorn in Brooklyn\, New York\, Fran’s personal artistic journey began at a very early age. Given the opportunity in elementary school to take up painting\, she quickly showed a special aptitude for the medium. Her teacher recognized this and encouraged her mother to nurture her talent. Her mother wasted no time purchasing oil paints\, canvas\, and an easel for her to use. With this\, she later went on to win several local and national art competitions for her work. \nIn high school and college\, Fran continued to study art and art history. Fran quickly realized that oil painting was her passion\, and so she focused on that medium alone\, specializing in classical and contemporary still-life images. She attended Brooklyn College\, which was known for its outstanding art department. There she studied under accomplished traditional artists\, including Paul Gianfagna\, who taught anatomy\, and classical still-life painting. Fran strongly believes that an artist should be constantly growing and evolving. She\, therefore\, chose to continue her training at the Art Student’s League in New York\, where she studied with contemporary masters Peter Homitsky\, Leonid Gervits\, and Dan Thompson. She also exhibited her work at the school\, winning the prestigious “Red Dot” award. She went on to exhibit and sell her work locally in the New York area. \nIn 2018\, Fran moved to the Tampa Bay area. Again\, she sought out new art venues and chose to attend the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. There she studies with master artists\, Markissia Touliatos and Shawn Dell Joyce. She is also a recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant for 2024. Fran’s professional affiliations include OPA (Oil Painters of America)\, TESA (The Exhibiting Society of Artists) and CAG (Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin). SUMMARY:"Nature's Harmony: A Scientific Symphony" by Gina White
DESCRIPTION:Our world is teeming with vibrant life. It’s in the blades of grass in our front lawns. It’s in the symphonic birdsong that greets us in the morning. It’s even in the air we breathe. Life surrounds us\, envelops us\, and connects us all. \nSince the beginning of human history\, the beauty and complexity of our natural world have inspired both the arts and sciences\, each informing the advancement and illumination of the other. As science broadens our understanding of the intricacies and hidden aspects of our natural world\, the field of creative expression acts as a perfect catalyst to cultivate a deeper connection with nature\, inspiring curiosity\, exploration\, and a sense of interconnectedness. \nI employ art to visually interpret philosophical writings and poetry\, focusing on Christian mystics like Thomas Merton\, St. Teresa of Avila\, and C.S. Lewis. I’ve also done studies of popular music\, including U2\, Arcade Fire\, and Mumford and Sons. Given the subjective nature of poetry and fine art\, I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style\, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings. I am an encaustic artist and beyond wax\, I use oil paint\, wood\, found objects\, and metals. \n– Gina White \nArt Reception: Friday\, April 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.   MORE INFO \nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m. SUMMARY:"The Sky's the Limit"
DESCRIPTION:This art show explores the atmosphere. Florida is mostly flat\, and the sky looks like a vast bowl—upside down—hovering over our heads. The majesty of Florida’s atmosphere is expressed in towering thunderstorms\, high-flying Cirrus clouds\, and flat misty grey coverage—not to mention brilliant blues and blue-greens that morph into lavender\, flame red\, and yellow sunsets. \nIn Florida\, The Sky’s the Limit\, and anything is possible. \nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m.
