South Florida Lyric Opera (SFLO) presents two contrasting one-acts in a double bill.
The tale of Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, is gut-wrenching as Tonio, a member of the traveling troupe of players rejected by Nedda, sees her with another man and tells her husband, Canio, how to get vengeance. In the famous aria “Vesti la giubba”, Canio applies his clown make-up saying that the show must go on, but creates his own tragic ending.
On the flip side, the tale of Trial by Jury is one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most successful comedies. Bitter over Edwin’s refusal to marry, Angelina takes him to court to demand his hand in marriage. Poor Edwin is forced to defend himself in front of a jury & judge that obviously favor the beautiful defendant.
Performed with a cast of international singers, an outstanding local chorus and instrumental ensemble, you won’t want to miss this memorable evening!
