It’s more than a jazz concert. It’s time with friends.
Jazz with Jim is a monthly concert hosted by Jim Burge (saxophone/flute), Ron Delp (keyboard), Jeff Hanson (drums), and John Tschirhart (bass) — together, they are The Jazz Directions.
This month, The Jazz Directions will welcome guest musician Matt Weihmueller. Weihmuller is a jazz saxophonist from Tampa, Florida. He attended the H.W. Blake High School of the Arts. He then moved to Tallahassee, where he completed his undergraduate education (magna cum laude) and master’s of music degrees at Florida State University.
In 2012, he moved back to Tampa. He has been the jazz and saxophone instructor at the Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts for the last nine years, including the annual “Jazz Intensive” summer camp furthering students’ improvisational skills.
In addition to his time at the Straz Center, Matt joined the Arts4All Florida organization in 2014. He currently works with the Young Performers Program, which provides instruction for young performers with disabilities. Additionally, Matt performs with several groups of varying genres and participates as a speaker or panelist sharing his unique experiences regarding the subject of diverse learning, including several engagements as a guest lecturer at the Peabody Conservatory at John Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Matt’s greatest personal goal is to champion the cause of increasing Braille literacy for young blind musicians.
