MAS Community Theatre, the resident theatre company for the Carrollwood Cultural Center, will hold auditions for a live staged recreation of the original radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds on Sunday, August 18 and Monday, August 19. Auditions will start at 7pm and will be held at the Center, located at 4537 Lowell Road in Tampa.
October 30 will mark the 75th anniversary of Mercury Theatre’s original radio broadcast of Howard Knoch’s adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. To celebrate, MAS Community Theatre will perform a live staged recreation of the broadcast at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center on October 4, the Ruskin Firehouse Cultural Center on October 25 and the Carrollwood Cultural Center on October 26 and 27. It will mark the first time MAS Community Theatre has toured a show in the Bay Area.
Auditioning actors will be asked to read an excerpt from a play (fiction or non-fiction), poem, or other text of their choosing for no more than 60 seconds. The audition will also include cold readings, exercises and games. Actors are encouraged to be familiar with the original 1938 broadcast of The War of the Worlds and that style of broadcasting. For more information about auditions, contact director Ric Solerto-Brown at [email protected].
The recreation of the original Mercury Radio Theatre broadcast of Howard Koch’s The War of the Worlds is being produced through a special arrangement with Anne Koch.
