SUMMARY:"Direct/Indirect" by William Talenti
DESCRIPTION:“At the heart of all beauty lies something inhuman\, and these hills\, the softness of the sky\, the outline of these trees at this very minute lose the illusory meaning with which we had clothed them.”\n-Albert Camus\nThese six paintings (in the exhibit) concern pigment application and idea combination. I began each piece with a deliberate modality—Realistic\, Abstract\, or Non-Objective—pairing each with a “sister” painting on an opposing wall to serve as a formal counterpoint. Eventually\, the rules dissolved\, and I stopped following the recipe. An overlapping of my emotional state and the evolving surface of the paint occurred\, allowing the content to find its own voice beyond the initial structure. \nDirect/Indirect represents a deliberate unlearning of over thirty years of visual literacy. As both an educator and a painter\, I am fascinated by how a personal artistic voice is constructed\, refined\, and—eventually—dismantled. By isolating the core elements of color\, shape\, value\, and pattern\, I converge figurative representation with the intuitive faculty of abstraction. These works seek the tension between what we see and how we think\, emptying the familiar to discover what remains. \n-William Talenti \nClick here to view Gallery Hours.

SUMMARY:M*A*S*H (Military Appreciation Night)
DESCRIPTION:Opening Night is Military Appreciation Night\nMembers of any branch of the military — active or veteran — are invited to attend opening night on May 15 for free! Call (813) 922-8167 or stop by the Center to inquire about your free ticket. Thank you for your service! \nM*A*S*H\nAdapted by Tim Kelly\nBased on the book by Richard Hooker\nDirected by Chris Holcom\nM*A*S*H stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital\, and joining it are two unpredictable madcaps\, Hawkeye (Michael Neary) and Duke (Mackley Fogarty). They can’t be dealt with casually\, however\, because they are also two of the best chest surgeons in South Korea. \nHawkeye and Duke decide to wage a campaign to get a young Korean (Max Rodriguez) to the United States and entered in a good school. The thread of this effort helps to tie together the pileup of comic adventures that pyramid right before your eyes! Hawkeye has a scene with a woman psychiatrist (Janice Nepon-Sixt) who believes he’s been trying to lobster-trap mermaids in a rice paddy! There’s a jolly encounter with the baby-talking Bonwit sisters (Janice Nepon-Sixt\, Mary Kay Cyrus\, Carol Sheldon)\, the worst tap-dancing act the U.S.O. ever sent overseas\, and a sergeant (Mike Lowe) is selling dumb GIs fishing rights in the Bay of Phum. Radar O’Reilly (Joshua Eberhart)\, a soldier with exceptional hearing\, anticipates events before they occur. The proprietor of a painless dental clinic is cured of dark moods by the recreation of an old monster movie—and a monster! It’s all here\, including a little romance mixed in with dramatic moments and a genuine love of life. \nM*A*S*H is presented through a special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock\, NY. \n\nAdmission: $30 for members / $35 for general admission Group Rate (10+): $32 (This event will have reserved seating.) \n\n*An ASL interpreter will be available for the performance on May 22. Please inquire at the time of purchase. \n(This is a ticketed event. Some online processing fees may apply. Visit the Box Office or call (813) 922-8167 to avoid processing fees.) \n\n

SUMMARY:M*A*S*H
DESCRIPTION:M*A*S*H\nAdapted by Tim Kelly\nBased on the book by Richard Hooker\nDirected by Chris Holcom\nM*A*S*H stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital\, and joining it are two unpredictable madcaps\, Hawkeye (Michael Neary) and Duke (Mackley Fogarty).
