SUMMARY:"Nature's Harmony: A Scientific Symphony" by Gina White
DESCRIPTION:Our world is teeming with vibrant life. It’s in the blades of grass in our front lawns. It’s in the symphonic birdsong that greets us in the morning. It’s even in the air we breathe. Life surrounds us\, envelops us\, and connects us all. \nSince the beginning of human history\, the beauty and complexity of our natural world have inspired both the arts and sciences\, each informing the advancement and illumination of the other. As science broadens our understanding of the intricacies and hidden aspects of our natural world\, the field of creative expression acts as a perfect catalyst to cultivate a deeper connection with nature\, inspiring curiosity\, exploration\, and a sense of interconnectedness. \nI employ art to visually interpret philosophical writings and poetry\, focusing on Christian mystics like Thomas Merton\, St. Teresa of Avila\, and C.S. Lewis. I’ve also done studies of popular music\, including U2\, Arcade Fire\, and Mumford and Sons. Given the subjective nature of poetry and fine art\, I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style\, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings. DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE for show and performance information. \n\nCarrollwood Cultural Center and show director Chris Holcom will hold auditions for the classic thriller Deathtrap by Ira Levin.\n \nLiving comfortably in his charming Connecticut home\, Sidney Bruhl\, a writer of Broadway thrillers\, struggles to overcome a dry spell resulting in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortune occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college. Sidney’s plan\, devised with his wife’s help\, is to offer collaboration to the student for co-credit. DESCRIPTION:Join us for Strings in the Spring when Franz Mantini welcomes violinist Vivek Jayaraman for an evening of music for piano and violin.\nFlorida Orchestra Violinist Vivek Jayaraman joins pianist Franz Mantini in the 2024 edition of Strings in the Spring at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. The program opens with Clara Schumann’s three beautiful Romances\, followed by Brahms’s monumental Sonata in G Major Sonata. The second half of the program features Dvorak’s delightful Sonatina in G major\, and concludes with Debussy’s inimitable Violin Sonata in G minor. \nAbout the Performers \nVivek Jayaraman (pictured above) is a member of The Florida Orchestra in St. Petersburg\, FL\, and has performed and toured with several major orchestras in the United States\, including The Cleveland Orchestra\, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra\, the Pittsburgh Symphony\, and the New York Philharmonic. In the Tampa Bay area\, Vivek has frequently performed as concertmaster for St Petersburg Opera and has appeared with several other local ensembles.  \n​Vivek was concertmaster of the Canton Symphony Orchestra (OH) from 2015-2017 and has performed as concertmaster with the New World Symphony under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas\, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland\, and as Guest Concertmaster of symphonies in Jacksonville\, Vancouver\, Shreveport\, and Knoxville. Additionally\, he served as acting assistant concertmaster of The Florida Orchestra from 2019 to 2021. He received an Artist Diploma in Concertmaster Studies in 2015 at the Cleveland Institute of Music\, studying with Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster William Preucil.  \n​In addition to his studies at CIM\, Vivek received a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music\, studying with Charles Castleman\, and a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music\, where he studied with Lisa Kim and Glenn Dicterow\, former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Vivek plays a modern violin built in 2005 by Roger Graham Hargrave.  \nThe 2022 summer season included a return to both the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland and the Sun Valley Festival Orchestra.  \nFranz Mantini has maintained an active schedule of solo and chamber music performances in the Tampa Bay area and beyond for nearly thirty years. Mr. Mantini studied with renowned artist Jacques Abram at the University of South Florida\, where he appeared numerous times in solo recitals and as a soloist with the USF Symphony Orchestra as winner of the annual Concerto Competition. \nHis local credits include a combined thirty solo and chamber performances at what is now the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. He has collaborated with many current and former principal members of the Florida Orchestra as well as members of the Houston Symphony and Ehnes String Quartet. He has appeared in concerts with the Lafayette String Quartet and as a concerto soloist with various community orchestras. Mr. Mantini has been a regular at the Carrollwood Cultural Center since its inception\, where he created the Strings in the Spring series\, which has featured both local and international artists annually for over a decade. Guests have included former and current Florida Orchestra Concertmasters Amy Schwartz Moretti and Jeffrey Multer\, TFO Principal Cellist James Connors\, Internationally acclaimed violist Che Yen Chen\, and many more. \nIn addition to his musical endeavors\, Mr. Mantini earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of South Florida and currently works as an Electronic Hardware Design Engineer at GE Aerospace. SUMMARY:"Florida Light" by Jennifer Lancaster
DESCRIPTION:Florida’s natural environment has been a theme in Lancaster’s artwork for years. Since attending Sarasota’s Ringling School of Art in the early 1970s\, oil painting has been her medium of choice. Her process starts by building the entire composition with one color\, usually Di oxazine purple\, and then building up local colors in layers. Her favorite subjects are palm trees\, which she finds beautifully linear. DESCRIPTION:Francine Michel \nFrancine Michel finds the natural world a continuous source of inspiration. Flowers\, plants\, and trees located nearby or found on a journey are captured. Beginning with a plein air study on rice paper that may involve some abstraction\, Michel continues the process by fusing the picture into wax. This encaustic method can also involve additional surface techniques. \nWith its luxury exhibit space\, Michel also includes new series and approaches for this show. This section includes digital work\, white line printing\, frottage pictures\, and cityscapes of France. Michel enjoys sharing and talking about her work. DESCRIPTION:I have been painting and creating art for over 50 years. It is and has always been an integral part of my life and a definitive statement of who I am as an individual. Given the opportunity in elementary school to take up painting\, she quickly showed a special aptitude for the medium. Her teacher recognized this and encouraged her mother to nurture her talent. Her mother wasted no time purchasing oil paints\, canvas\, and an easel for her to use. With this\, she later went on to win several local and national art competitions for her work. \nIn high school and college\, Fran continued to study art and art history. Fran quickly realized that oil painting was her passion\, and so she focused on that medium alone\, specializing in classical and contemporary still-life images. She attended Brooklyn College\, which was known for its outstanding art department. There she studied under accomplished traditional artists\, including Paul Gianfagna\, who taught anatomy\, and classical still-life painting. Fran strongly believes that an artist should be constantly growing and evolving. She\, therefore\, chose to continue her training at the Art Student’s League in New York\, where she studied with contemporary masters Peter Homitsky\, Leonid Gervits\, and Dan Thompson. She also exhibited her work at the school\, winning the prestigious “Red Dot” award. She went on to exhibit and sell her work locally in the New York area. \nIn 2018\, Fran moved to the Tampa Bay area. Again\, she sought out new art venues and chose to attend the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. There she studies with master artists\, Markissia Touliatos and Shawn Dell Joyce. She is also a recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant for 2024. SUMMARY:"Nature's Harmony: A Scientific Symphony" by Gina White
DESCRIPTION:Our world is teeming with vibrant life. It’s in the blades of grass in our front lawns. It’s in the symphonic birdsong that greets us in the morning. It’s even in the air we breathe. Life surrounds us\, envelops us\, and connects us all. \nSince the beginning of human history\, the beauty and complexity of our natural world have inspired both the arts and sciences\, each informing the advancement and illumination of the other. As science broadens our understanding of the intricacies and hidden aspects of our natural world\, the field of creative expression acts as a perfect catalyst to cultivate a deeper connection with nature\, inspiring curiosity\, exploration\, and a sense of interconnectedness. \nI employ art to visually interpret philosophical writings and poetry\, focusing on Christian mystics like Thomas Merton\, St. Teresa of Avila\, and C.S. Lewis. I’ve also done studies of popular music\, including U2\, Arcade Fire\, and Mumford and Sons. Given the subjective nature of poetry and fine art\, I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style\, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings. SUMMARY:"Florida Light" by Jennifer Lancaster
DESCRIPTION:Florida’s natural environment has been a theme in Lancaster’s artwork for years. Since attending Sarasota’s Ringling School of Art in the early 1970s\, oil painting has been her medium of choice. Her process starts by building the entire composition with one color\, usually Di oxazine purple\, and then building up local colors in layers. Her favorite subjects are palm trees\, which she finds beautifully linear. DESCRIPTION:Francine Michel \nFrancine Michel finds the natural world a continuous source of inspiration. Flowers\, plants\, and trees located nearby or found on a journey are captured. Beginning with a plein air study on rice paper that may involve some abstraction\, Michel continues the process by fusing the picture into wax. This encaustic method can also involve additional surface techniques. \nWith its luxury exhibit space\, Michel also includes new series and approaches for this show. This section includes digital work\, white line printing\, frottage pictures\, and cityscapes of France. Michel enjoys sharing and talking about her work. DESCRIPTION:Our world is teeming with vibrant life. It’s in the blades of grass in our front lawns. It’s in the symphonic birdsong that greets us in the morning. It’s even in the air we breathe. Life surrounds us\, envelops us\, and connects us all. \nSince the beginning of human history\, the beauty and complexity of our natural world have inspired both the arts and sciences\, each informing the advancement and illumination of the other. As science broadens our understanding of the intricacies and hidden aspects of our natural world\, the field of creative expression acts as a perfect catalyst to cultivate a deeper connection with nature\, inspiring curiosity\, exploration\, and a sense of interconnectedness. \nI employ art to visually interpret philosophical writings and poetry\, focusing on Christian mystics like Thomas Merton\, St. Teresa of Avila\, and C.S. Lewis. I’ve also done studies of popular music\, including U2\, Arcade Fire\, and Mumford and Sons. Given the subjective nature of poetry and fine art\, I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style\, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings.
