SUMMARY:"Captivated Then Captured" by Francine Michel
DESCRIPTION:Francine Michel \nFrancine Michel finds the natural world a continuous source of inspiration. Flowers\, plants\, and trees located nearby or found on a journey are captured. Beginning with a plein air study on rice paper that may involve some abstraction\, Michel continues the process by fusing the picture into wax. This encaustic method can also involve additional surface techniques. \nWith its luxury exhibit space\, Michel also includes new series and approaches for this show. This section includes digital work\, white line printing\, frottage pictures\, and cityscapes of France. Michel enjoys sharing and talking about her work. She looks forward to an exciting summer at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. \nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m. – 6 p.m.\nMost Saturdays\n9 a.m. – noon \nSummer Gallery Hours (June 3-August 2):\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.\nMost Saturdays\n9 a.m. – noon \nOur gallery is unique because it is integrated in everything we do! When you take a class\, see a show\, or rent a room\, our gallery surrounds you. Please call ahead to ensure the gallery is available for viewing at the time you wish to visit.

SUMMARY:"Florida Light" by Jennifer Lancaster
DESCRIPTION:Florida’s natural environment has been a theme in Lancaster’s artwork for years. Since attending Sarasota’s Ringling School of Art in the early 1970s\, oil painting has been her medium of choice. Her process starts by building the entire composition with one color\, usually Di oxazine purple\, and then building up local colors in layers. Her favorite subjects are palm trees\, which she finds beautifully linear. She enjoys playing with the abstract shadows\, color\, and light that change with the weather and the time of day. \nJennifer’s work received first place in the Center’s Pointillism & Beyond art exhibit in 2024. \n\nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m. SUMMARY:Everyone Gets Eaten by Sharks
DESCRIPTION:Join us as campers ages 11-13 enrolled in our 3-week Youth Arts Intensive program perform Everyone Gets Eaten by Sharks: A Cautionary Tale.\n\nFACT: Most people\, if not everyone\, will eventually be eaten by sharks. But you can postpone the inevitable (and get a great deal on a timeshare!) by joining Adventure Dan on a tour through shark-infested scenarios to avoid\, such as kayaking with meat paddles\, night-swimming after prom\, or genetically engineering sharks for science. Because three things in life are certain: taxes\, death\, and\, specifically\, death by sharks. A delightfully madcap comedy you’re sure to devour . . . unless it devours you first. \nADMISSION: Admission to this performance is free\, and tickets are not required. Enjoy! \nSHOW CREDITS: Everyone Gets Eaten By Sharks: A Cautionary Tale is written by Marshall Pailet and presented through Playscripts.

SUMMARY:"Nature's Harmony: A Scientific Symphony" by Gina White
DESCRIPTION:Our world is teeming with vibrant life. It’s in the blades of grass in our front lawns. It’s in the symphonic birdsong that greets us in the morning. It’s even in the air we breathe. Life surrounds us\, envelops us\, and connects us all. \nSince the beginning of human history\, the beauty and complexity of our natural world have inspired both the arts and sciences\, each informing the advancement and illumination of the other. As science broadens our understanding of the intricacies and hidden aspects of our natural world\, the field of creative expression acts as a perfect catalyst to cultivate a deeper connection with nature\, inspiring curiosity\, exploration\, and a sense of interconnectedness. \nI employ art to visually interpret philosophical writings and poetry\, focusing on Christian mystics like Thomas Merton\, St. Teresa of Avila\, and C.S. Lewis. I’ve also done studies of popular music\, including U2\, Arcade Fire\, and Mumford and Sons. Given the subjective nature of poetry and fine art\, I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style\, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings. I am an encaustic artist and beyond wax\, I use oil paint\, wood\, found objects\, and metals. \n– Gina White \nArt Reception: Friday\, April 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.   MORE INFO \nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m. SUMMARY:"Alive with Still Life" by Fran Failla
DESCRIPTION:I have been painting and creating art for over 50 years. It is and has always been an integral part of my life and a definitive statement of who I am as an individual. I paint because I love it. I love the smell of the oils and the rich\, creamy way oil paints glide on a smooth canvas. I love to see an image emerge from those paints and form a visual reality for the viewer. My art is about communicating the simplicity and beauty of Life. It is something that often cannot be approximated with words alone\, as there is a visual aesthetic that\, by its very nature\, accompanies the communication. And the aesthetic then elevates the communication beyond the words. \nI am fascinated by the seemingly mundane parts of Life. A piece of fruit\, an old piece of ceramic or glass\, a flower that’s beyond its freshness\, are all\, to me\, inherently beautiful. It is my mission as an artist to bring that beauty to others in a meaningful and abundantly aesthetic way. \n-Fran Failla www.franfailla.com \nArt Reception: Friday\, April 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.   MORE INFO \n\nAbout the Artist\nFran Failla \nBorn in Brooklyn\, New York\, Fran’s personal artistic journey began at a very early age. Given the opportunity in elementary school to take up painting\, she quickly showed a special aptitude for the medium. Her teacher recognized this and encouraged her mother to nurture her talent. Her mother wasted no time purchasing oil paints\, canvas\, and an easel for her to use. With this\, she later went on to win several local and national art competitions for her work. \nIn high school and college\, Fran continued to study art and art history. Fran quickly realized that oil painting was her passion\, and so she focused on that medium alone\, specializing in classical and contemporary still-life images. She attended Brooklyn College\, which was known for its outstanding art department. There she studied under accomplished traditional artists\, including Paul Gianfagna\, who taught anatomy\, and classical still-life painting. Fran strongly believes that an artist should be constantly growing and evolving. She\, therefore\, chose to continue her training at the Art Student’s League in New York\, where she studied with contemporary masters Peter Homitsky\, Leonid Gervits\, and Dan Thompson. She also exhibited her work at the school\, winning the prestigious “Red Dot” award. She went on to exhibit and sell her work locally in the New York area. \nIn 2018\, Fran moved to the Tampa Bay area. Again\, she sought out new art venues and chose to attend the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. There she studies with master artists\, Markissia Touliatos and Shawn Dell Joyce. She is also a recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant for 2024. Fran’s professional affiliations include OPA (Oil Painters of America)\, TESA (The Exhibiting Society of Artists) and CAG (Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin). \n\nGallery Hours:\nMost Mondays through Fridays\n9 a.m.
