SUMMARY:"Everyday Encounters" by Yuka Ikebuchi
DESCRIPTION:Yuka Ikebuchi is originally from Shimane prefecture in southwestern Japan. During her college years in Japan\, she encountered works of art created by people who survived extremely traumatic wartime experiences\, facilitating her desire to pursue art therapy. \nUpon completing her studies\, she worked with a wide variety of clinical populations at hospitals\, community facilities\, and a long-term care facility in the US. After some years spent as a therapist\, Yuka became more focused on being a full-time mother and a homemaker until\nher youngest took off to college. \nSince then\, Yuka has been back in her studio and continuing to work on painting. Yuka is now creating art of her own and finding images that reflect her inner voice. \nARTIST STATEMENT: I often look for something that catches my eyes when I walk in my neighborhood\, new towns\, or foreign cities. Some days I get lucky and happen to come across a fascinating scene like circus performers practicing their trapeze work. Other times I get a passing glance at people going about their daily lives in cafes\, at the beach\, or on city and village streets. It seems that whenever I am not actively searching for a particular inspiration\, beautiful sky and clouds\, fresh flowers and vegetables in gardens\, and lively dogs and cats will often help expanding my mind’s eye. \nHowever there are lots of other times\, I have to dig in deep and look and think about painting inspiration. In whatever a motif and/or vision comes to be my painting theme\, I look for images that can be formed to convey their natural beauty and/or become a vehicle of sorts to project emotions\, intentions\, and experiences. In the “Circus Practice”\, I try expressing mixed emotions by contrasting between the stillness of the man suspended in mid air and active movements in the sky. \nMy work is evolving and searching for ways toward better execution. I humbly enjoy an impressionistic approach with texture and movement from brush strokes and layered color effects. \nPictured: Circus Practice by Yuka Ikebuchi

SUMMARY:New Horizons
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the excitement of the season with New Horizons – a multi-faceted band that plays for the joy of performing music.\nThe New Horizons International Music Association (NHIMA) is a worldwide organization with over 250 New Horizons groups and 10\,000 members. Some members played music during their school years and stashed their instruments in a closet or attic while the demands of work and raising children took center stage. Others dreamt of being musicians but never had the opportunity or the money to pay for lessons and instruments when they were school-age. Both groups find themselves now at or near retirement with children grown and gone\, fewer responsibilities\, but just as much desire. \n\n\nPlease consider making a donation when registering for classes or purchasing tickets. Your donation can be as simple as rounding your total to the nearest five or ten dollars — or whatever amount you wish to give. Thank you for your contribution! \n

SUMMARY:"A Natural Response" by Susan Huskey
DESCRIPTION:A native Floridian\, Susan Huskey deeply appreciates the beauty of flowers and the landscape\, having grown up in the country with the freedom to explore her natural surroundings. Susan’s love of flowers was a gift from her mother\, a botanist who always had gardens full of flowers and taught her how to plant her first flower patch. Then she was hooked!

SUMMARY:"Square Roots" by Mark Lembo
DESCRIPTION:I feel best when bringing works to life that are distinctive\, challenge easy categorization\, capture the synergy of melding diverse media\, and blur the lines between watercolor\, acrylics\, mark-making\, and action painting styles. My latest adventures have been in relief printing/mark-making and abstract montage. \nEven with a simple palette\, there are still so many ideas to explore and evolve with various media\, surfaces\, and techniques.  Abstract art – and cooking! – provide great freedom and the joy of discovery through the creative process. \n– Mark Lembo

Susan became increasingly fascinated by the infinite variety of floral shapes and colors\, the intricacy of some forms\, and the simplicity of others. Thus\, the natural world soon became the inspiration for her watercolor explorations. Susan loves to paint with splashy and expressive brushstrokes\, overcoming the need to paint the subject verbatim but composing with a blend of detail and the abstract. PLainting is an act of joy she shares with you. \nSusan Huskey \n(727) 534-5243 \nart@susanhuskey.com

SUMMARY:"Think Big" by Elizabeth Ventura
DESCRIPTION:Creating large works requires not only exaggerated gestures\, sweeping brush strokes\, and thick paint but also broader\, simpler concepts that can be seen and understood from a distance. Big work means tapping into big dreams. \nI thought about bold colors\, distinct shapes\, a mix of organic and structured elements to create a noticeable presence. \nThink Big was jump-started by a conversation with a group of women of a certain age that centered on the “cultural invisibility” of older women. Think Big says “I’m here and I still have something meaningful to say.” \n– Elizabeth Ventura
