SUMMARY:Every Brilliant Thing
DESCRIPTION:Every Brilliant Thing\nBy Duncan Macmillan\, with Jonny Donahoe \nA one-person show with Paul Berg \nYou’re six years old. Mum’s in hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for: \n1. Ice cream. 2. Kung Fu movies. 3. Burning things. 4. Laughing so hard you shoot milk out your nose. 5. Construction cranes. 6. Me. \nYou leave it on her pillow. You know she’s read it because she’s corrected your spelling. Soon\, the list will take on a life of its own. \nEvery Brilliant Thing is a one-person play about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love. (This production explores aspects of mental illness/health and grief. It also contains depictions of depression\, self-harm\, and suicide.) \nPresented through Dramatists Play Service. \nBe part of the 2024-25 Theatrical Season: Sponsor this Production \n\nAdmission\nThis event has reserved seating. \nMembers: $12 / General Admission: $15 \n\n**Online processing fees apply. \n

SUMMARY:Tampa Metropolitan Improv
DESCRIPTION:The minds that brought you Tales of Mild Interest (or TMI for short) are returning to their improv roots\, with the newly formed Tampa Metropolitan Improv (or TMI for short)!\nCome for a riotously good time\, and perhaps even play along with us\, as we perform short-form improv games using suggestions from you\, the audience (think along the lines of Whose Line is it Anyway\, or Dropout TV’s Make Some Noise). No two TMI shows are alike\, but rest assured\, we bring a saucy\, edgy\, extremely cool\, and hip PG-13 rating to the function that most of the family can enjoy! \nYou’ll laugh! You’ll cry! (Hopefully\, the crying is from the laughter.) But who knows…it’s improv\, baby! \n\nAdmission: Free for members / $5 general admission \n\nThis is a ticketed event. Some processing fees may apply\, even for free tickets. Visit the Box Office or call (813) 922-8167 to avoid processing fees.

SUMMARY:War of the Worlds
DESCRIPTION:Join us as campers ages 14-16 enrolled in our 4-week Youth Arts Intensive program perform The War of the Worlds.\nThe War of the Worlds radio broadcast\, directed by Orson Welles on October 30\, 1938\, was a dramatization of H.G. Wells’ novel. It was presented as a series of fake news bulletins simulating a Martian invasion of Earth targeting New Jersey. The realistic sound effects and presentation style led some listeners to believe it was an actual event and caused widespread panic despite announcements that it was a fictional play. The event remains one of the most famous examples of mass hysteria triggered by a radio broadcast. \nADMISSION: Admission to this performance is free\, and tickets are not required. SUMMARY:Steel Magnolias
DESCRIPTION:Steel Magnolias\nBy Robert Harling \nDirected by David J. Valdez \nThe action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin\, Louisiana\, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant\, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married)\, the outspoken\, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon\, Ouiser (“I’m not crazy\, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire\, Miss Clairee\, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader\, M’Lynn\, whose daughter\, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town)\, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions\, the play moves toward tragedy when\, in the second act\, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play and its characters the special quality to make them truly touching\, funny\, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. \nPresented through Dramatists Play Service. \nBe part of the 2024-25 Theatrical Season: Audition / Sponsor this Production \n\nAdmission\nThis event has reserved seating. \nMembers: $30 / General Admission: $34 \n\n**Online processing fees apply. \n\n
