SUMMARY:Strings in the Spring
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Strings in the Spring when Franz Mantini welcomes violinist Vivek Jayaraman for an evening of music for piano and violin.\nFlorida Orchestra Violinist Vivek Jayaraman joins pianist Franz Mantini in the 2024 edition of Strings in the Spring at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. The program opens with Clara Schumann’s three beautiful Romances\, followed by Brahms’s monumental Sonata in G Major Sonata. The second half of the program features Dvorak’s delightful Sonatina in G major\, and concludes with Debussy’s inimitable Violin Sonata in G minor. \nAbout the Performers \nVivek Jayaraman (pictured above) is a member of The Florida Orchestra in St. Petersburg\, FL\, and has performed and toured with several major orchestras in the United States\, including The Cleveland Orchestra\, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra\, the Pittsburgh Symphony\, and the New York Philharmonic. In the Tampa Bay area\, Vivek has frequently performed as concertmaster for St Petersburg Opera and has appeared with several other local ensembles.  \n​Vivek was concertmaster of the Canton Symphony Orchestra (OH) from 2015-2017 and has performed as concertmaster with the New World Symphony under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas\, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland\, and as Guest Concertmaster of symphonies in Jacksonville\, Vancouver\, Shreveport\, and Knoxville. Additionally\, he served as acting assistant concertmaster of The Florida Orchestra from 2019 to 2021. He received an Artist Diploma in Concertmaster Studies in 2015 at the Cleveland Institute of Music\, studying with Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster William Preucil.  \n​In addition to his studies at CIM\, Vivek received a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music\, studying with Charles Castleman\, and a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music\, where he studied with Lisa Kim and Glenn Dicterow\, former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Vivek plays a modern violin built in 2005 by Roger Graham Hargrave.  \nThe 2022 summer season included a return to both the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland and the Sun Valley Festival Orchestra.  \nFranz Mantini has maintained an active schedule of solo and chamber music performances in the Tampa Bay area and beyond for nearly thirty years. Mr. Mantini studied with renowned artist Jacques Abram at the University of South Florida\, where he appeared numerous times in solo recitals and as a soloist with the USF Symphony Orchestra as winner of the annual Concerto Competition. \nHis local credits include a combined thirty solo and chamber performances at what is now the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. He has collaborated with many current and former principal members of the Florida Orchestra as well as members of the Houston Symphony and Ehnes String Quartet. He has appeared in concerts with the Lafayette String Quartet and as a concerto soloist with various community orchestras. Mr. Mantini has been a regular at the Carrollwood Cultural Center since its inception\, where he created the Strings in the Spring series\, which has featured both local and international artists annually for over a decade. Guests have included former and current Florida Orchestra Concertmasters Amy Schwartz Moretti and Jeffrey Multer\, TFO Principal Cellist James Connors\, Internationally acclaimed violist Che Yen Chen\, and many more. \nIn addition to his musical endeavors\, Mr. Mantini earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of South Florida and currently works as an Electronic Hardware Design Engineer at GE Aerospace.
