This
class is designed for the person who would like to take digital photographs, but
has no idea how to manage the camera, let alone get pictures out of the camera
and onto a computer. We will examine the camera settings and menu choices in the
first session. Then we will take a series of photographs of a still life using
different lighting scenarios and modes. We will upload those photos using your
camera’s cable, or a card reader your instructor will provide. A camera is not
necessary to take this class; you may borrow one from the instructor if you do
not have a camera, but if you do, bring the cable and the instruction manual.
Digital photo editing will be introduced using Photoshop Elements 5 which are
installed on the Centers’ computers. We will examine what makes a “good”
photograph and how to think like a photographer rather than a “shutter snapper”.
We will demonstrate all the wonderful ways we can use digital photography in our
everyday lives to enhance and delight our friends and family.
Class
attendees will receive weekly hand-outs to help clarify the class topics. People
taking this class should have some basic computer skills, how to open programs,
how to manipulate the mouse or keypad, and how to save files. Bring your own
laptop if you wish to use it during class.
